An oral and maxillofacial surgeon or your dentist can remove (extract) a wisdom tooth. The procedure often can be done in the dentist’s or surgeon’s office. You may have the surgery in the hospital, especially if you are having all your wisdom teeth pulled at one time or if you are at high risk for complications.
The term “dental sealant” or “tooth sealant” refers to a plastic resin that a dentist bonds into the grooves of the chewing surface of a tooth as a means of helping to prevent the formation of tooth decay (“cavities”).
The use of anesthetics by appropriately trained dentists in the dental office and other settings has a remarkable record of safety. Anesthesia-trained dentists work with their patients to determine the appropriate steps to make dental visits as safe, comfortable, and pain-free as possible.
Dentists have a variety of anesthetics of each patient. Local anesthetics are used to control pain.
To treat a cavity the dentist will remove the decayed portion of the tooth and then “fill” the area on the tooth where the decayed material once lived. Fillings are also used to repair cracked or broken teeth and teeth that have been worn down from misuse (such as from nail-biting or tooth grinding).
Dental braces are a type of orthodontic treatment used to correct teeth that are crowded, crooked, protruding, out of alignment or have irregular spacing. By moving the teeth into the ideal position, dental braces help to create a more attractive and healthier smile for both children and adults.
